Greek Cypriot Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) slammed the recent proposed amendments of Greek Cypriot government on the implementation code of Green Line regulations.

The proposition that accepted by the Greek Cypriot Councils of Minister largely aimed to ban the travel of third world countries nationals to travel from Turkish Cypriot side to Greek Cypriot controlled areas.

After the acceptance of the proposed amendments, the representatives of AKEL accused Greek Cypriot government to turn the Green line into a hard border. In the news reports published in Greek Cypriot media announced that AKEL criticized the amendments as providing discrimination between Europeans and third world countries nationals.

Concerning the restrictions of the proposed amendments that also aimed to restrict the travel from Greek side to Turkish side for the holders of temporary resident visas, AKEL asked what was the legal and political basis for restricting the right to free movement of a group of people residing in Greek Cypriot community?

Both changes raise a big political issue over the status of the Green Line, which essentially turned into a hard border on the initiative of (Greek Cypriot) government AKEL stated.
