The head of the Peoples’ Party (HP) Gazimağusa District Office Süleyman Canatan said that the opening of the fenced-off city of Maraş will contribute greatly to the people of Gazimağusa as well as the country’s economy.

He said that his party fully supported the opening of Maraş.

In a written statement, Canatan said that opening the fenced-off city will not only result in the removal of a standing symbol of the status quo on the island but will also integrate the closed city with the rest of Gazimağusa.

“It is important that the inventory is completed in a speedy manner and detailed fashion so as to determine the roadmap ahead,” he added.

Canatan added that it was important that any new step should not harm anyone’s property rights.

“A roadmap will be determined once the state of the building’s infrastructure is determined,” he said.

Canatan argued that bringing life back to the fenced-off city will contribute greatly to the country’s economy. (BRT)
