Attack shadows first Church service after 45 years

The first religious service at the Panagia Lysis Church in Akdogan in 45 years was shadowed by an hate motivated attack on the Turkish flag and the portrait of the late TRNc President Rauf Denktas reports say.

The first religious service at the Panagia Lysis Church in Akdogan in 45 years was shadowed by an hate motivated attack on the Turkish flag and the portrait of the late TRNC President Rauf Denktas reports say.
The vandalism carried out by an unidentified individual was caught on the nearby school security camera.
The peaceful service took place last Sunday were security measures were taken place fort he safety of those who visited the Church, however after the service was over the incident took place.
The culprit first lowered the Turkish flag from the pole in the neighbouring Dr. Fazil Kuchuk Primary school and then moved on to take out the Denktash poster from its cabinet. The principal of the school Sozer zkaramenent posted the security footage on his social media page and said that he had also passed the footage on to the authorities.When we go to Hala Sultan Tekke in Larnaca the Greek Cypriot Police doesnt allow us to wander around the area. Why did the TRNC Police and authorities fail to take precautions and allowed this kind of hate motivated vandalism to take place he said on his social media page.
The 19th century church in the village of Lysi. It was built by the pioneer Cypriot architect and builder mastre-Giakoumis in the period 1880-1888. The church was re-opened for its first service after 45 years in September 2019.
