Father apologizes as stolen flag and poster returned   The incident where the 16-year-old Greek Cypriot youngster stole the Turkish Flag and the poster of the late President Rauf Denktaş, was resolved after father apologizes.

The incident where the 16-year-old Greek Cypriot youngster stole the Turkish Flag and the poster of the late President Rauf Denktaş, was resolved after father apologizes. 

The father of the 16 year old apologized to the Turkish Cypriots for his son’s actions and returned the flag to President Mustafa Akıncı through the United Nations today.

Also sending the Rauf Denktaş Poster, the father said that “I can assure you that my son has learnt a lesson from his actions and I express our remorse regarding the incident” he said.

A ceremony took place where family members were present at the presidential Palace where the Turkish Flag and the Poster was returned.

President Mustafa Akıncı said that a huge mistake was made and there should lessons learnt and good results made out this incident. It is huge burden for youngsters and our Island to poison young hearts with hatred.

Mr Akinci also said that It very important that mistake has been accepted and the apology has been made and that the education systems had to be adjusted in order for these incidents not to be repeated.

President Mustafa Akıncı will hand over the Turkish Flag and the poster of the late President Rauf Denktas to the headmaster of Dr. FAzil Kuçuk Primary School tomorrow at 10.00.
