The General Secretary of the National Unity Party (UBP) Ersan Saner announced that they aimed to nominate the party’s presidential candidate in October.

Saner was speaking on the forthcoming presidential elections and the party’s candidate during a program on TV Güneş.

“The UBP’s Party Assembly and the Central Executive Board will be making a nomination in October the latest. The UBP is the founding political party of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. We have an historical mission of perpetuating the state and leading the people to a peaceful and prosperous future. For us, the newly elected president should be someone who will uphold, protect and preserve the state. Someone who will make it his mission and duty to lead the Turkish Cypriot people as an independent and sovereign people as his duty” Saner said.

Touching upon the UBP-HP coalition government, Saner said “I said that the problems between the two coalition partners are fewer than problems between two brothers. However, my words were twisted by the paper. The government is running smoothly and there are no problems.”

On the government actions, the UBP Secretary General said the problems experienced with paying salaries were solved through the 2 year protocol signed with Turkey.

“These problems did not solve themselves. Several contacts were held between the two countries. Our prime minister met with the Turkish President Erdoğan and the problems were solved. The procedure is continuing and there is no uncertainty on this issue. The administrative procedures are continuing between the two countries and the funds will be transferred once the procedures are completed” Saner explained.

Saner said that the protocol did envisage the privatization of several institutions but added that this was not only the product of the protocol.

“The privatization of Ercan Airport, sea ports and the Telecommunication Department were also included in the 2010-2012 protocol,” Saner added
