Former President and National Unity Party (UBP) Honorary leader Derviş Eroğlu said that his party had a duty to nominate a candidate that had a chance to win the presidential elections and it wouldn’t be able to explain itself if it failed to make it to the second round.

“When there are different policies being discussed on the Cyprus issue the National Unity Party should be the main policy maker” he said.

Reminding that UBP had supported Rauf Denktaş in some elections and later had nominated it own candidate in others, Mr Eroğlu said that UBP should make the right decision and expressed his view that UBP should nominate its own candidate.

Eroğlu also warned that the current party administration could not explain itself if the party failed to make it to the second round in the and said that if was asked he would advise the party to announce it’s candidate on the anniversary of the party on the 11th of October.
