CTP MP Akansoy questions the approach of government on Maronites

In a speech delivered in the parliament session on Tuesday, Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Asim Akansoy directed a question to a coalition government about the earlier initiative on the Maronites. Highligting the necessity of a new regulation about the status of Maronites in TRNC, MP Akansoy argued that Maronites should obtain the equal rights with TRNC citizens.
“Public opinion should be informed about the goverments’ approach about the Maronites. Therefore the question about further steps and plans of government on the initiative of Maronites should be responded” Akansoy said.
In his speech, CTP MP Asim Akansoy has commented on the recent discussion over Varosha and accused Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Ozersay to issue non-binding statements on Varosha.
Pointing out the UN Security Council resolutions 550 and 789 published in 1984, Mr. Akansoy argued that the remarks of Deputy PM largely conflicted with the internationally recognized resolutions on Varosha. CTP MP Akansoy also added that the steps should be taken within the resolutions of UN security Council.
