A joint protest announcement at Metehan (Kermiya) crossing for raising awareness on problems Several NGOs including Business People Association (İŞAD), Independent Industrialists and Business People (MÜSİAD), Chamber of Turkish Cypriot Shopkeepers and Artisans (KTEZO) announced on Tuesday that a joint protest will be held on Wednesday at Metehan (Kermiya) crossing in order “to raise an awareness on the problems at the crossing that turned into a torture”.

Several NGOs including Business People Association (İŞAD), Independent Industrialists and Business People (MÜSİAD), Chamber of Turkish Cypriot Shopkeepers and Artisans (KTEZO) announced on Tuesday that a joint protest will be held on Wednesday at Metehan (Kermiya) crossing in order “to raise an awareness on the problems at the crossing that turned into a torture”.

In a joint public announcement published on Tuesday, the Chariman of İŞAD Enver Mamulcuoglu stated that the best way to increase the level of coherence between the societies is commerce and despite the heavy attempts and pressures of several Greek Cypriot politicians, Greek Cypriots prefer to shop in Turkish Cypriot community.

Highlighting that İŞAD’s previous attempts to draw attention to the problems at the crossing, Chairman of İŞAD Enver Mamulcuoglu criticized government officials to not take the required measures to speed up the crossing at Metehan crossing.

Reminding that the protest of NGOs at Metehan crossing will take place at 11.00 on Wednesday in respect to raise awareness on the ongoing problem, Mamulcuoglu expressed that a file of suggestions prepared by his association after the several observations.

In accordance to speed up the crossing from north to south and south to north, Mamulcuoglu stated that the number of personnel at the crossing are insufficient and the required infra-structure also preventing the leveling up the speed at the crossing.

Calling government officials to take the required measures at Metehan (Kermiya) crossing, Mamulcuoglu underlined that the measures that need to be taken directly affect the increase of Turkish Cypriot economy.
