Minister of Economy and Energy Hasan Tacoy told in a TV interview that Electricity Board Union failed to do their share in reducing the prices for electricity consumption.

Concerning the ongoing indefinite strike of Electricity Board Union (El-Sen) Minister Tacoy emphasized that the coalition government initially aimed to provide required conditions to cheapen the price of electricity consumption in N. Cyprus.

The contract signed with Electricity Board Union was obvious. The agreement contains 60 megawatt jenerators. In accordance of the signed contract, Ministry of Energy will go out to a tender. I also informed the representatives of the union about the tender. However, the Union has requested to go out a tender before December 1 which is the last day before the announcement of election silence Minister Tacoy stated.

Tacoy also pointed out that the purchase of 60 megawatt additional jenerators will be implemented via an international tender and added that to receive better offers, coalition government tends to go out to a tender by the beginning of May or June.

Higlighting that the representatives of El-Sen rejected his approach, Minister Tacoy said that Union preferred to launch an indefinite strike instead to chosing the option to act within a hormony with the government.

The request of the Union dissapointed me. To start a strike that heavily affecting the lives of the citizens was out of their concern. Despite the constructive approaches of coalition government on energy issue, the reaction of the union was totally disappointing Tacoy said.

Rejecting the criticisms forwarded to him about the ongoing strike, Tacoy emphasized that Electricity Board Union failed to implement their part in accordance of the signed agreement.

Tacoy said If anyone has a right to protest, its me and the coalition government. Because they failed to cheapen the prices of electricity despite their confirmation to take the required measures.
