Democrat Party elects Fikri Ataoglu as the new leader

Fikri Ataoglu has been elected as the new leader of Democrat Party (DP) in 11th General Assembly held on Saturday.
In the General assembly of Democrat Party, the members initially voted for the candidates of Party assembly and shortly after confirmed Fikri Ataoglu’s leadership in an uncontested election.
The new leader of DP Ataoglu said starting from his party Democrat Party will work to design the future of Turkish Cypriot community within a determined vision and mission.
“The one and only ideal is TRNC, one and only assurance is motherland Turkey and only focus is our community. In accordance of these ideals, if it requires to hit the pavement, we will not hesitate; if the system requires a transformation, Democrat Party will be the pioneer of the transformation” DP leader said.
The former leader of Serdar Denktas who expected to run for upcoming Presidential election said in his speech during the assembly that his decision to not participate in the leadership of his party was not a good bye.
“This was certainly not a good bye. Its rather the beginning of though new road” DP MP Denktas said.
Commenting on his potential candidacy on presidential run, Serdar Denktas said “There was an expectation to announce my candidacy, however I do not feel completely ready for this. I have two option ahead. First one is to wait for five more years in respect to liberate myself from the allegations forwarded to me or alternatively run for the presidency as an independent candidate and elected as President after the vote in second ballot”.
Denktas also added that he will announce the decision about his potential candidacy for upcoming Presidential run in a close future.
