Minister Atakan clarifies coalition government decision on Gecitkale Airport

Minister of Transportation Tolga Atakan made a case for designating Gecitkale Airport as a base for Turkish drones to assist the hydrocarbon drill activities around the island.

Minister of Transportation Tolga Atakan made a case for designating Gecitkale Airport as a base for Turkish drones to assist the hydrocarbon drill activities around the island.

Speaking in a parliament session held on Friday, Minister Atakan pointed out to the contract signed with Turkey that allows Turkish Cypriot officials the designate the airports into the service of the Turkish army officials upon the official request.

Initially there is a need to emphasize that the activities of the Civil Aviation authority and other activities will continue without any problem. The flights of Turkish drones will be implemented within a collaboration and under the supervision of Turkish Cypriot Civil Aviation authority. Minister noted.

Emphasizing that the Turkish drones will be able to assist every kind of rescue and search activities in East Med, Minister Atakan stressed that the developments in hydrocarbon search in East Med, particularly the strategic move of Greek Cypriot Administration to sign a deal with Israel to obtain drones played a substantial role in the decision of the coalition government.
