Fresh water pipeline between TRNC, Turkey has burst after heavy weather conditions

A pipeline carrying fresh water from Turkey to TRNC has burst due to the heavy weather conditions.

A pipeline carrying fresh water from Turkey to TRNC has burst due to the heavy weather conditions.

Speaking to Turkish Cypriot media in relation with the damage in underwater pipeline, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Ouz said that the pipeline located 250 metres under the sea had burst.

Minister Ouz also added that the damage was about eight kilometers from the Turkish coast, part of the pipe has surfaced and fresh water ended in the sea.

Pointing out that a damage occurred in pipeline was expected by the officials, Minister Ouz reminded that Geitky Dam constructed to back up such problems.

No one should forget that Geitky Dam constructed to provide back up in the face of such damages. The Geitky Dam holds 20 million cubic meter water reserve. This amount would compensate 10 months water supply for TRNC Minister noted.

Minister Ouz also stated that he already contacted with Turkish officials for the repair of the damage. The repair of the fresh water pipeline expected finalized in two months.
