Financial blockage on road safety project lifted: Minister Atakan

Minister of Transportation and Public Works Tolga Atakan said on Friday the financial blockage lifted for the road safety project that will allow the installation of rail guards at center median on the highway between Gönyeli roundabout and Boğaz junction.

Minister of Transportation and Public Works Tolga Atakan said on Friday the financial blockage lifted for the road safety project that will allow the installation of rail guards at center median on the highway between Gönyeli roundabout and Boğaz junction.

Highligting that the project has been pending for some time due to the economic restrictions, Minister Atakan said an important step had been taken with lifting the financial blockage on the project.

In a written statement published by the Ministry of Transportation, it was stated that some part of the fund will be allocated for the installation of rail guards on Lefkoşa- Girne highway. In the official announcement it was also underlined that 12 million TL reserved for Alsancak belt highway maintenance project.

Minister Tolga Atakan also touched upon the official preparations for the new regulations in the traffic in his statement. He said that the licenses of the drivers who receive a penalty from the police on excessive speed, drink driving, inattention will be terminated.

Minister of Transportation Tolga Atakan also said the licenses of 17 drivers have been already terminated in the last quarter of 2019 and added that they preferred to increase the penalties in respect to deter the drivers from such violations while driving.

In relation with the draft of new regulations in the traffic, the drivers whose driving licenses have been terminated will have to enroll to the driving courses and the required driving examination once again.

In the framework of the new draft on traffic regulations, Minister Atakan said the licenses of the drivers will be terminated directly in some cases without waiting for 6 months and the drivers will face 5-6 days long prison sentences.
