Prime Minister Ersin Tatar said on Wednesday that Turkish Cypriots living abroad were a political force now.

He announced that necessary instructions have been given to start work to enable Turkish Cypriots living abroad the right to vote and to be elected.

Speaking at a public talk in London, Tatar said that his contacts at the British Parliament had been productive.

Turkish Cypriots living in the UK are a political force now, he said adding that they attach great importance to Turkish Cypriots living in the UK.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the TRNC, Tatar said that the countrys importance had grown with the discovery of offshore natural gas.

A new situation has emerged in the Eastern Mediterranean. Turkey has foiled the plans of other countries in the region trying to exclude it from the energy equation. The importance of the TRNC has grown in terms of the distribution of these resources. That is why we need to continue working for the development of the TRNC, he said.
