New Gezici poll points Tatar as leading candidate

The Gezici Polling Company has released the results of its latest poll on the upcoming presidential elections in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The Gezici Polling Company has released the results of its latest poll on the upcoming presidential elections in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

During the survey participants were asked who they would vote for in the upcoming presidential elections.

The public opinion poll shows the National Unity Partys candidate Ersin Tatar as the strongest candidate with 36.2% of the votes.

The current President Mustafa Aknc received 29.3% and the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) candidate Tufan Erhrman received 17.4% of the votes.

Erhrman is followed by independent candidate Kudret zersay with 10.1%, the Rebirth Partys (YDP) candidate Erhan Arkl with 6% and Sibel Siber with 2%.

The poll said that Ersin Tatar will win the second round of the elections by receiving 47.7% of the votes while Mustafa Aknc would receive 42.2% of the votes.

According to the same survey 78.7% of the public do not believe a solution will be reached between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots and 80% support the continuation of Turkeys guarantees on the island.

A whopping 84.4% of the participants said they believed that the fenced-off city of Mara (Varosha) should be opened while 3.4% said it should be returned to Greek Cypriots.

12.2% said that the town should remain fenced-off.
