A new intensive care unit has been opened at the Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital.

Prime Minister Ersin Tatar and the Minister of Health Ali Pilli inaugurated the 11 bed capacity intensive care unit on Thursday.

Speaking there, Minister Pilli said that the Health Ministry attached special importance to the intensive care units which he added were critical for hospitals.

Pill said that they will continue to renovate, maintain and upgrade wards at the current hospitals and clinics until the construction of the 500 bed capacity planned hospital to be built by Turkey is completed.

Pilli also added that an announcement regarding the new hospital to be opened in Girne will be made next week.

Prime Minister Tatar for his part stressed that the government continued to contribute to improving the health sector by pushing its limited means.

Recalling the statement made by the Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca during a visit he paid to the Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital last week, the Premier reminded that Turkish Minister Koca praised the performance and knowledge of the doctors and hospital personnel but added that the state hospital was in need of repair.

“We are trying to provide the best health care possible,” Tatar said, noting that the newly inaugurated intensive care unit at the Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital and the new hospital to be opened in Girne were good examples.

Also commenting on reports in the media that the government has raised the prices of medication, the Premier said that the government had nothing to do with the hikes and that the increase in prices were due to the rising foreign exchange rate.
