The leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and presidential candidate Tufan Erhürman has said that the opening of the Lefkoşa International Airport should be discussed together with the opening of the fenced-off city of Maraş (Varosha).

Erhürman, speaking on a television programme on Tuesday, said it was important to take steps which would bring the two sides closer in the absence of a comprehensive solution.

“We should also discuss this matter under the supervision of the United Nations,” Erhürman said.

The CTP leader said that the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades’ latest proposal for the establishment of a bi-communal technical committee on the fenced-off city should be expanded to include the Lefkoşa International Airport and the issue of hydrocarbons.
