The pro solution activist group Unite Cyprus Now released a statement reacting to the Turkish Foreign minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s remarks calling those who denied the need of security and Guarantees provided by Turkey.
“As UniteCyprusNow we find it unacceptable for Mr Cavusoglu to label anybody as traitor due to their position on the matter of security and guarantees” the statement read.
The statement continued by reminding that the Turkish Cypriots had elected a leader to represent them in the talks for a solution of the Cyprus problem and the guarantor powers should be contributing positively in the process and supporting the leaders, insinuating that Mr Çavuşoğlu’s remarks had undermined President Akinci during his recent visit.
Also touching upon the allegations regarding Greek Cypriot Leader Nicos Anastiasades’ promise behind closed doors to seek a two state solution, UCN claimed that division would go against the will of the overwhelming majority of Cypriots who do not want the country partitioned.
“Cypriots deserve to live in a united country, a country that belongs to them and they should ultimately be the ones to determine its future” UCN statement said.
