Bi-communal call for a progression in Berlin talks

In regards to support the upcoming tripartite meeting that will be held on November 25 in Berlin, the representatives of Republican Turkish Party (CTP) have visited Greek Cypriot Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) on Wednesday.

In regards to support the upcoming tripartite meeting that will be held on November 25, the representatives of Republican Turkish Party (CTP) have visited Greek Cypriot Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) on Wednesday.

After the meeting held at AKEL Party Building in South Lefkoa, the leaders of the parties jointly underlined the importance of upcoming tripartite meeting for the future of Cyprus and expressed their common wish that constructive approaches at the Berlin talks could lead the way for quintuplet meeting with the participation of guarantor countries of Cyprus.

In his statements delivered after the meeting, the leader of CTP Tufan Erhurman reminded the United Nations General Secretary (UNSG) Antonio Guterres earlier remarks after Crans Montana talks that touched upon the requirement of solution-oriented and close-ended negotiation systematic for the future progressions of Cyprus talks.

Pointing out to the UN Security Council decision issued in 2019, CTP MP Erhurman stated the political equality of Turkish and Greek Cypriots has been confirmed by the international board. Expressing that the way for quintuplet meeting would be open if the leaders could constructively progress within the perspective determined by UNSG Guterres along with the decision of UN Security Council, Former PM Erhurman argued that the willpower of two leaders and stand of UNSG will be a determinant in Berlin talks.

Main opposition party leader Tufan Erhurman also added that his party along with AKEL aimed to provide a support the actualization of quintuplet meeting and the close communication with AKEL will be continue after the finalization of Berlin talks.

In the meantime, the leader of AKEL Andros Kyprianu underlined the necessity of political willpower in regards to take a step forward in upcoming tripartite meeting in Berlin in his statements.

AKEL MP Kyprianu also stated that his party was sharing the same purpose with CTP and the two parties will meet up again after critical Berlin talks.
