Greek Cypriot leader calls for bi-communal committee on fenced off city Maraş

Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades has called for help from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in setting up a bicommunal committee on fenced off city Maraş (Varosha) as a confidence-building measure (CBM), Greek Cypriot media reports said on Thursday.

Anastasiades reportedly sent Guterres a letter after the round table discussion last week on Varosha on the opening of the fenced-off part of Famagusta in which Turkish Vice-President Fuat Oktay participated along with other officials from Turkey and the TRNC.
According to Greek Cypriot news report, in his letter, Anastasiades calls for Guterres’ help to get Turkish Cypriots to agree to set up a bicommunal committee on Maraş as a CBM.
Anastasiades said that this very important CBM which would contribute to the creation of a positive climate between the two communities.
