Minister Baybars announces new Public Housing project A new public housing project was announced today at a press conference attended by Interior Minister Ayşegül Baybars, the Mayor of Gazimağusa İsmail Arter, the Mayor of Güzelyurt Mahmut Özçınar, Deputy Prime Minister-Foreign Minister Kudret Özersay and Prime Minister Ersin Tatar.

A new public housing project was announced today at a press conference attended by Interior Minister Ayşegül Baybars, the Mayor of Gazimağusa İsmail Arter, the Mayor of Güzelyurt Mahmut Özçınar, Deputy Prime Minister-Foreign Minister Kudret Özersay and Prime Minister Ersin Tatar.

The project which will be carried out in all six districts aims to make up to ten thousand low-income earners, homeowners over the next ten years.

The public housing project will compromise of 2+1 and 3+1 apartment flats.

The first phase of the project will be carried out in Gazimağusa and Güzelyurt areas, said Interior Minister Ayşegül Baybars.

She said that land surveys in Lefke, İskele and Lefkoşa had been completed and that work to find appropriate construction land in Girne was almost completed.

Baybars attended that the tendering process for the project in Gazimağusa and Güzelyurt will be launched in June this year.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kudret Özersay for his part said that such long-lasting projects must become part of a vision aimed at addressing the housing needs of young people.

Prime Minister Ersin Tatar who also spoke at the event said that the public housing project will help address the problem of expensive housing.

He also underlined the importance of sustaining such social housing projects.
