How do you hide the cables on a wall mount shelf for TV components?
I used to have a wall mounted flat screen TV with a wall mounted shelf for the components. It's two glass shelves. It was taken down over a year ago, and I've decided to put it back up. It's mounted back on the wall, however, we can't figure out how we are supposed to hide the cables. The top and the bottom have large covers that snap over the system, but there doesn't appear to be any way to run the cables down the front or anyway to retreive them from the back. any help or suggestions?
You basically have two choices. 1. You can start cutting drywall and hide them in the wall, or 2. You can leave them out in the open but try to make them look better.
Most people end up selecting #2 because it is so much easier.
Relative to #2, Home Depot and many other places have these coiled flexible plastic split tubes which are about 1 inch in diameter. You put all of your cables inside this tube (which does come in different colors), which does look a lot better than a mess of wires hanging there. I'm not sure though with glass shelves how viable an option this is for you.
I will mention that I have heard of surface mount cables, but someone else will have to address this variation, because I've never used them.
I've actually done both #1 (in our Family Room) because we have an extensive system with Blu Ray, Tv, A/V Receiver, satellite receiver, computer, etc.
Then upstairs in the master bedroom, I did it the easy way, #2.
